Hello! Welcome to the Sally in the Zen podcast. I’m your host, Sally. I’m a Zen Buddhist caregiver to my elderly folks and always in pursuits to find Zen moments in everyday living. If you’re new to a podcast, welcome. If you’re not new and you’re returning, welcome back.
Today’s episode is actually going to be pretty quick, very brief because if you haven’t guessed from my title, I’m just taking a moment to reflect on where we are, at home and in history.
So if you’re ready, let’s get started.
First off, I hope all of you are safe, that you and yours are doing well. As I’m taping this episode, it’s Sunday, November 8th at 2:00 in the afternoon Eastern Standard Time. And the reason why I specifically dated this episode is to highlight exactly where we are at this point in time in this moment of reflection. So the current stats of COVID as of today at 1:09 p.m. Eastern Standard Time in the United States, the deaths are 230,000. Infected cases 9.9 million and if we drill down specifically into my state of Pennsylvania, the number of deaths are 9,089 and cases are 233,000. And today right now, as I’m looking out the window, it’s sunny and it’s 76 degrees.
Mom is doing well. Dad is doing well. Toothless but he’s doing well and I am still slated to be laid off on Wednesday, 11/11, the day this episode drops.
I had an interview that went really well. I met with two people on two separate occasions and all signs were pointing green up until the last moment something happened where he started ghosting me, and wouldn’t respond until I dogged him two days until he finally told me: “it was good talking with you but we’ve moved on to other people and good luck in your endeavors.” Nice parting message.
So I’m back to square one of having nothing in the horizon. I’ve applied to so many positions all over the place, inside the company and outside. So let’s just see where that goes.
It’s at this moment that a song just popped into my head. Have you heard of REM, the oldie but goodie – it’s the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine. And so sorry that I sang off key but that’s exactly how I feel! I feel fine.
Because as of yesterday, the world outside my window just made sense again. Joe Biden and Kamala Harris won the election and I was in tears. Because things started to make sense again. It’s what they represent – the return of human decency, common courtesy, empathy for people of all races, of all colors, in a historic moment where 75 million votes were cast for them in a history-making moment in our country. And I was blown away by that.
Kamala Harris is going to be the first Asian American, the first African American woman VP in our history too. And Joe Biden is going to be our 46th President of the United States. And what did I do to celebrate this historical moment? Besides taking a moment to reflect on the enormity of what all of the stands for? I made from scratch pumpkin coffee cake, and I drank it with a very strong cup of coffee with Mom and Dad.
So that’s what inspired today’s episode. Just a moment in time. I just wanted to bookmark that I was here and I was a part of it to make this history happen.
Okay give me one second here. Let me just take a deep breath here and I apologize for losing it. But it’s…it’s a happy moment even though it doesn’t sound like it, it’s a really happy moment.
I thank you for sharing your time with me. I hope you and yours are safe and sound no matter what part of world you’re in, and I will talk to you next time.
