DoubleTree Chocolate Chip Cookies

  • Post category:Family

I think I stayed at the Double Tree once or twice in my very rare business travels, and I’ve honestly never knew they made homemade chocolate chip cookies.

Which is the reason for the tardiness of this post this Sunday.  Usually I have my post up in the early morning or afternoon, but it’s 0400 EST right now.  I’m literally making the cookies as I’m doing this post.

Yeah, sometimes you got to spice up the normal blogging routine and just go with it.

When I saw the news that they released their secret recipe for their cult-like following cookies, I was intrigued.  But, really though, anything about food and dessert intrigues me.

Nothing beats Toll House’s recipe but I’m always open to different recipes.  Butter, sugar and chocolate make the world go round for me and I’ll never pass up a recipe for tasty chocolate chip cookies.

And since we’re Stay-at-Home, we’ve been making lots of homemade comfort food, like:

It just seemed the right tasty thing to do, since we can’t go out to restaurants right now.

And lovely food breaks the monotony of this long Groundhog’s day of a Stay-at-Home order.

It’s been awhile since I made chocolate chip cookies, and it was actually comforting and fun to make things from scratch.  Because of Zen Master’s diabetes, I pulled back on the white sugar by 1/4 cup and substituted the lemon juice for apple cider vinegar.

Just a little music in the background, a lovely sunny day outside, Zen Master and Zen Mum watching Asian drama in the living room, safe and sound, there’s not much else I could ask for.

I’m blessed.  I count my lucky stars each and every single day.

Never lose sight of the little things because at the end of the day, this is what makes life.

And as I was making the cookies, Zen Mum made homemade buttered popcorn.  We have it seasoned with cumin, Mrs. Dash, garlic, unsalted butter and pepper.  Sometimes when I’m in the mood, I would add cayenne.

So as I’m writing this post, I’m surrounded by my home brewed high octane Starbucks coffee, wonderful seasoned popcorn, waiting for my cookies.

My little oven runs on the hot side, so while the recipe said to bake at 300 degrees, I actually did it at 275 degrees.  And watched it for light golden brown and a soft middle, like the recipe advised.

Final verdict for DoubleTree’s Chocolate Chip Cookies:  B+ (for my first try)

Except for the two adjustments noted above with the white sugar and the lemon juice substitute, I followed the recipe as directed.  The next time I make this, I’m going to cut back on the chocolate chips because they made the cookie a bit sweeter than what Zen Master preferred.

It was still pretty yummy.

A nice ending to a lovely Sunday
