Chinese New Year 2020
From my family to yours, Happy Chinese New Year!

Chinese New Year 2020

  • Post category:Family

Just yesterday, Saturday, January 25, 2020 was Chinese New Year. And so began the Year of the Rat!

For the exact meaning of what it means to be in the Year of the Rat, I encourage you to Google it.  There’s plenty of explanation out there from so many sources that explain it better than I could.

Or want to at the moment because I’m all about the food!

Our Chinese New Year Family Tradition

First off, regardless if it’s the calendar New Year or the Lunar New Year, we clean our house.  Out with the old, in with the new.  We believe in good karma and starting the new year with good mojo; hence, a clean house is a no-brainer.

The few days prior to Chinese New Year, we would shop for food!  Sometimes Zen Mum would make homemade dumplings.  Sometimes we would indulge and go out that very day to Chinatown for dim sum.  And if it’s a nice day, we’d go out for a walk in the park.

Honestly, no matter what, it’s all about family.  Being together and eating good food.

I find as I’ve gotten older that the real karma to living is being with Zen Master and Zen Mum.  In my podcast, my byline is “in pursuit of Zen Moments in everyday living” .  It’s not a thing that I tagged to my show.

It’s the real deal with me.  For example, the Zen Moment that I relish on Lunar New Year’s day is being in my heart space with my parents.

You know, I think I’m becoming more and more like my folks.  So much for my promise that I made when I was younger, that I wouldn’t grow up to be like them.

Happy Chinese New Year!  Here’s to a prosperous and wonderful Rat year!

xoxo
