Vanity Sink – Final Chapter

Vanity Sink – Final Chapter

  • Post category:Family

Who’d have thought that there’d be a “Vanity Sink – Final Chapter” story?  I certainly didn’t expect it but there you go.

Here’s the back story:  as a Father’s day gift for 2019, I replaced the vanity sink completely DIY.  Yes sir, I surely did.  I’m normally a Do-It-Yourselfer for most things but I have to absolutely give credit to the things that really helped me make it happen:

  • A really great guy in Lowe’s who talked me through everything step-by-step, besides showing me exactly what tools I needed to get the job done.
  • The vanity sink itself was just a one-piecer, the actual sink completely assembled already with the table, and all I had to do was attach the faucet pieces into it.
  • A really nice, and strong neighbor who heaved the fully assembled sink into the vanity cabinet for me.  I’m strong but had zero game to lift it up by myself.

The Fight

I remember the fight that Zen Master and I had before I actually did the job.  He was absolutely against me doing it.  Zero.  A hearty HELL NO YOU’RE NOT DOING IT.

“Why can’t I do it?”  I yelled at him.  “It’s sounds pretty easy the way that Home Depot guy explained it to me.  I can do it!”

“Because it’s too heavy!”  He yelled back.  “Because I can’t help you lift it because I’m not strong enough anymore!  And you can’t lift it by yourself!  You’ll drop it and break it!”

“Then I’ll ask Neighbor John if he can help me lift it.”  I shrugged.  “See if he’s free.”

And honestly that one idea never entered Zen Master’s head.  He was completely fixated with the fact that he wasn’t as strong as he used to be, and his right hand hasn’t been right since the stroke.  This fight was going in for weeks, and I really thought his resistance to me doing it DIY was simply because I was a girl.  Which made absolutely no sense to me when he’s always said that girls were just as good and sometimes even better than boys.

This is what happens when you assume something when simply asking gets the job done.

Note to self:  JUST ASK, Sally.  What’s the matter with you?

Next Steps for the Vanity Sink

Fast forward to current day.

Now Zen Master wants me to swap out his vanity sink in the master bathroom.  Except the new challenge also include a longer table than the normal 31 inches that I had in my own bathroom.

Now what do I do about that?

Besides that, I’m thinking this may be a project to tackle next year but Zen Master is thinking sooner.  So we’re now locked horns over the timing.

TO BE CONTINUED.
